Russ Ball’s birds are exquisitely painted on prepared panels with oil glazes, papers and flora embedded. They are an aesthetic treat for the eyes and become more beautiful as you examine them closer.
 
Dalmations make a lovely subject for painting and drawing with the graphic quality of their contrasting black and white surfaces. The white shadow areas reflect beautiful pinks and lavenders even as the black spots anchor and define the shape and pattern. Russ Ball places the dogs on a background of hand made papers or patterned fabric. The dalmations are done either as oil paintings on panels or as oil pastel drawings on paper.
